I use the VMA to cut down on the whipsaws that are inherent with MA’s but other than that, it is no different than the system one first learns about in Forex 101, the moving average cross. The idea that when ATR is bigger than St Dev denotes a trend is valid; it is the big ‘decision’ candles that we want.
